Bus Driver Suspended for Wearing Pink Tie in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
William “Bill” Jones, 46, was told to take the tie off, and was later informed that he would be suspended for a day without pay for violating the uniform dress code, according to a story by the State Journal-Register.
Transit authority official Linda Tisdale told the State Journal-Register that employees wanting to deviate from the uniform must ask in advance. Previous requests such as wearing Halloween costumes and red & white hats during the holidays have been approved, she said. Although Jones still had to serve the suspension, the board has approved wearing pink on Friday's in recognition of Breast Cancer Month, the story said.
